Mildura could well be described as Australia's home of motorsport.There are very few regions which can boast such an impressive list of champions across a wide range of motorsport disciplines.
On bitumen they include V8 Supercar drivers Todd and Rick Kelly, Australian Superbike champion Josh Waters and Australian Top Fuel drag racing champions Phil Lamattina and now current 2011 Champion and two-time winner, Darren Morgan.
On dirt, the district has produced a plethora of champions including three-time World Solo Speedway champion Jason Crump, 10-time Australian Solo Speedway champion Leigh Adams and five-time Hattah Desert Race winner Warren Smart.
It's also produced the only man to have won Australia's toughest off-road race, the Australasian Safari, on both a motorcycle and in a car. John Hederics has won the event no less than nine times - more victories than any other competitor.
Mildura's reputation is equally as impressive on the water with numerous national and world title winners, including Damien Matthews.
The district not only produces world champions - it also hosts them. Mildura boasts some of the biggest and most successful motorsport events in the country, attracting thousands of competitors and spectators each year.
They include the massive Mildura 100 Ski Race at Easter, the Mildura 'Slamfest' Top Doorslammer drag racing event in April, the Sidecar Spectacular and Sidecar Shootout in March and the Hattah Desert Race in July.
In addition to these special events, the district's enthusiastic and progressive motorsport clubs regularly host State and national titles throughout the year, including go-karts, speedway cars, off-road (car) racing, ski racing, drag racing, motocross, and enduro. And the best thing for both spectators and competitors is the majority of these events take place within 10km of Mildura's major accommodation houses.
Spectators can take in the best ski racing from the banks of the beautiful Murray River, watch Australia's best off-road riders race through the picturesque Mallee scrub, or take in some drag racing from country Australia's premier one-eighth mile drag facility.
